Champions for Kids
Sequoyah Elementary has been introducing an incredible program called “Champion for Kids”. Each staff member, including janitors, nutrition, and administrative staff, have a list of specific kids that they are a champion for. They make it a point to go out of their way to see the kids in the halls and say something encouraging to them or to leave them little notes, as pictured above on their lockers. It has been an amazing way to connect students to the school while making them feel more comfortable and that the staff truly care.
Additionally, certain 5th grade students, with great behavior, have been given 2 or 3 champions of their own from a lower level grade. Not only does this help the younger kids, but it is a great learning experience for the 5th graders as they are understanding the importance of being kind. These 3 girls were sharing about the great things that have come out of being champions, including receiving sweet thank you notes from their little ones, being able to brighten their days each week, and the joy that they get from seeing how happy it makes the younger kids. This is an incredible program and we are so proud of all of the students and staff at Sequoyah!
