Kaitlin Heggy: 2017-18 Teacher of the Year Candidate

On March 6th we will be hosting our annual Teacher of the Year banquet in which we will recognize each candidate and name the winner for the 2017-18 year. Leading up to the banquet, we will be introducing you to each of the candidates in order for you to get to know the outstanding educators in our district.

The first candidate is Kaitlin Heggy of Shawnee High School!

Katilin received her bachelors degree in Secondary History Education from UCO in 2014 and her masters in Educational Leadership, Curriculum, and Supervision in 2016. She plans to go on to get her doctorate in Education in the future. She has been teaching in Shawnee for the past 3 years in the subjects of United States History, AP US History, and is a Student Council Sponsor.

In July she is getting married to her fiance Mason who is an electrical engineer for OGE. Both of her parents are attorneys for the state, her oldest brother is a teacher at Putnam City West, and her other brother is a grad student at Syracuse. She loves to read whenever she has the time and is in the process of re-reading the Harry Potter series.

One of the reasons she enjoys teaching is because she never knows what to expect from her students, causing her day to be different every single day which constantly keeps her on her toes. Her students often surprise her with their knowledge of random facts or their major obsessions in Netflix shows.

We are proud to have Ms. Heggy in the district and are thankful for all that she does for her students. Congratulations on being the SHS Teacher of the Year!
