Leslie Gothard: 2017-18 Teacher of The Year Candidate
Today's Teacher of The Year candidate is Leslie Gothard of SECC!
Leslie graduated with her B.S. in Early Childhood Education from The University of Science and Arts in Chickasha and received her Masters in Library Media from East Central University. She has been teaching for 22 years and has been with Shawnee Public Schools for 4 years, having spent 2 teaching kindergarten and is now in her second year of preschool.
Leslie has been married to Greg Gothard for 32 years and he is currently the O-Line coach at OBU. They have 2 children, Kirsten who works for mental health services and has Leslie's only granddaughter, Addie Mae, with husband Derek. They also have a son Cord who will graduate from Medical School in May.
Outside of work, Leslie enjoys snow skiing with her family, following OBU Football, reading, and spending time with her granddaughter. Something that is on her bucket list is that she would love to take her husband on an Alaskan Cruise. An interesting fact about her is that she has a bionic leg after a fall trying to rescue a kitten from a dog.
Leslie loves being a teacher because of the whimsy, the ability to be silly, and the authenticity/honesty of being in a preschool classroom! We are proud of the way that Leslie represents Shawnee Public Schools ad are lucky to have her impact on our students. Congratulations on being SECC's 2017-18 Teacher of the Year!
