Pre-AP and AP Summer Assignments
AP US History
This is Branch and I will be teaching AP United States History next year. In order for us to get on schedule and be ready for next year's exam I would like to offer some suggestions to make your experience the best it can be. First, I would highly recommend that you purchase the AMSCO textbook. It is $19.95 via the link below. It offers you more than just the text including the comprehensive text, the terms you will need to know, samples of the types of questions for the exam, and other help for the exam. Overall, it is inexpensive and will be worth the money. If you choose not to buy the book, there is an online version as a pdf. However, it is only the chapter readings. My second suggestion is for you to outline Periods 1 and 2 including the terms which include chapters 1-3 before the start of classes in August. If you do not purchase the AMSCO book, email me and I will get you the list of terms needed for the outlines. As a final reminder, APUSH is a college credit class. You will be required and expected to do more than an average class.
Please email me so I know you received this information. If I do not hear from you in a week, a letter will be mailed.
To do better is to know better,
AP World History
Complete a book review as extra credit for Guns, Germs, and Steel. (Guns, Germs, and Steel: The Fates of Human Societies https://www.amazon.com/dp/0393354326/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_JK.5EbYXJPT6B)
From Mr. Butler: I am attaching my rubric for this summer's assignment. Yes, this is merely Extra Credit however, this book does hit on very important concepts that, in AP World History, we will not cover. So if you're looking for your next big read, a little bored, or want to get a head start on things: This is what I will be looking for with your papers. It will be due the first Friday of class. If you have any questions or concerns, please let me know. (firstname.lastname@example.org).
