A Letter to Parents about the SPS Response to COVID-19, March 17, 2020
March 17, 2020
Dear Parents/Guardians,
As you have heard by now, State officials have ordered “all accredited public schools to cease operations effective March 17th until April 6th. Cessation of operations to include all instructional services, grading, all extra-curricular activities, staff development, training, or conferences; but essential clerical and administrative activities, such as business management, nutrition services, and maintenance may continue." This is an effort to slow the spread of the pandemic COVID-19 virus in our state. We agree with State officials that the safety of our students, staff, and families should be the primary focus.
We know this is a hard time for our community. In an effort to continue to provide services to our student community, we are finalizing a plan to provide meals two times a day (once in the morning and once in the afternoon) throughout neighborhoods and along our district bus routes beginning March 23, 2020, at the conclusion of our regularly scheduled spring break. Specific information regarding drop off locations and pickup times will be posted on the SPS SOCS app, our district website, and through our blackboard phone call/email system.
Remember, all schools will remain closed until April 6, 2020. We will continue to provide updated information regarding school closure, learning opportunities, and student services as it becomes available. Thank you for your support of Shawnee Public Schools.
If you would like to ensure you receive meals, please contact us at 405-878-1028. Provide your name, address, contact number, total in household 18 and under, and total household members. We understand that you may be a caretaker for individuals that are not typically our students; they will count, too.
Respectfully,
April J. Grace, Ed. D
Superintendent
