Horace Mann Bus Loading, Unloading Location Changes Coming Soon
August 25, 2021
Dear Horace Mann Families,
I want to thank you for your cooperation with us as we changed our car line procedures last week due to the City of Shawnee’s road construction. As this construction progresses, we will also have to make some small changes to our bus procedures in the near future.
Currently, our school buses are using the intersection of Whittaker and Draper. That intersection is scheduled to close after school on Friday, Sept. 3. On Wednesday, Sept. 8, we will begin a new procedure that will affect our buses in the morning and afternoon. In the morning, students will still be picked up at bus stops and dropped off at school at their usual times. Once at school, buses will drop off students at the intersection of 11th and Draper. We will stop the car line and allow students to cross at the intersection. Students will then walk down the sidewalk, enter the building at the front entrance, and then go to the cafeteria. In the afternoon, the buses will line up on 11th Street facing east. Students will cross the intersection of 11th and Draper and load the buses. This new bus procedure will not affect the car line in any way.
We will have school staff and school resource officers on hand directing traffic and helping students with the new bus drop off and pick up as needed. We will use this bus procedure for a few weeks until the City of Shawnee’s completion of the intersection construction project.
Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns about this change to our bus procedure. We will continue to keep you informed if the City of Shawnee’s construction project affects student transportation in any way.
