A COVID Update from Dr. April Grace, Sept. 3, 2021
Sept. 3, 2021
Dear Shawnee Families,
Again, this week we have continued to work with health officials to stay on top of the trends within our school buildings and the surrounding community. You will notice in our data that while two of our school sites declined in percentage of active positive cases, every other building increased in percentage of positive.
Two of our school sites are now above 1% in active positive cases (see below). Due to this increase in percentage of active positive cases at these two sites, we strongly encourage you consider having your student wear a mask while at school in classrooms. We need your help in mitigating the spread of this virus so that we can continue to keep in person learning in place, as well as school activities. Additionally, the Oklahoma State Department of Health and County Health officials do expect us to communicate close contacts and make you aware that quarantine is necessary.
Masks/face coverings are welcomed and strongly encouraged in all of our buildings where social distancing of at least 3 feet is not feasible. We encourage you to make the best decision for your student and your own family, while monitoring health conditions daily. We encourage you to consider vaccination to help combat the spread within our community. Our best opportunity to keep school open, as well as extracurricular activities in place, is to follow these guidelines.
We run data reports in an effort to provide you with information to make decisions for your family. The data covers Friday-Thursday of each week. Our goal is to keep students in school with face-to-face instruction, as well as activities in place. We need your help to keep the spread on our campuses down.
We will continue to work closely with our county and local health officials to monitor the situation; they have not recommended any changes to our plans at this time. We will notify you if any changes become necessary in a particular building or specific classroom in the future. For now, stay safe!
Sincerely,
Dr. April Grace
