Grocery Assistance Coming Soon for Many SPS Families
Pandemic Electronic Benefits Transfer (P-EBT) is a program that helps children who would have received free or reduced-price meals at school if not for the COVID-19 pandemic. Students who qualify will receive a debit card preloaded with funds that can be used for groceries.
There is no application process for these benefits. Families will receive benefits automatically if they are eligible. All students who were enrolled at Shawnee Public Schools in 2020-2021 in grades PK-8, or students in grades 9-12 who qualified for free/reduced meals in 2020-2021, will receive benefits equivalent to $6.82 per day for the days from October 2020 through May 2021 they received virtual instruction. No benefits will be issued for days in which the student received in-person instruction or was counted absent from virtual instruction.
Each eligible child in the home will receive a card with their name on it instead of the one card per household that was issued previously. Due to the nature of eligibility, it will be common for students in the same household to receive different benefit amounts.
The Oklahoma Department of Human Services plans to continue mailing out cards through Oct. 15. Any family that does not receive a card by Oct. 15 will need to go to www.sde.ok.gov/pebt to fill out a review form. This form will be available beginning Oct. 16. This website is also where families will report address changes.
