A COVID Update from Dr. April Grace, Oct. 22, 2021
Oct. 22, 2021
Dear Shawnee Families,
Once again, our data at school sites continues to remain consistent in percentage of active positive cases from the previous week.
We are happy to report that all sites are still below 1% in active positive cases (see below). We do continue to encourage mask wearing while at school in our classrooms where social distancing may not be feasible/possible. Remaining diligent in our efforts to mitigate the spread of this virus is important so that we can continue to keep in-person learning in place, as well as school activities. As a reminder, the Oklahoma State Department of Health and County Health officials do expect us to communicate close contacts and make you aware that quarantine is necessary.
We encourage you to continue to make the best decision for your student and your own family, while monitoring health conditions daily. We do encourage you to consider vaccination to help combat the spread within our community. Our continued best opportunity to keep school open, as well as extracurricular activities in place, is to be diligent in mitigating further spread, especially as we get into the fall and winter season.
We will move away from a weekly update on this percentage as numbers continue to remain very consistent and minimal. If we begin to see a shift in the numbers or spikes in the number of cases, we will begin the weekly communication around the percentage of active positive cases again.
Thank you for your ongoing efforts to help us mitigate the spread of this virus on our campuses. We appreciate your support and understanding as we continue to navigate these unusual times. Be on the lookout for vaccination opportunities as they are available.
Sincerely,
Dr. April Grace
Superintendent
