Classes Canceled Friday, Jan. 14, 2022
In-Person Learning Resumes Tuesday, Jan. 18
January 13, 2022
Dear Shawnee Families,
I wanted to let you know as early as possible it has become necessary for us to make the difficult decision to cancel school on Friday, January 14. Our decision is based on the number of our Shawnee school staff out in every department district wide. With our already scheduled day out of school Monday for Martin Luther King, Jr., Day, our hope is that a four-day weekend will allow our students and staff time to rest and recover. We plan to be back to a normal schedule of in-school learning on Tuesday, January 18.
While I know this news may be disappointing, we made this decision based on what is best for the health and safety of our students and staff. The growing number of staff absences has strained our ability to effectively cover classes and run bus routes. I want to take a moment to thank our staff for their tremendous efforts to keep schools open. Every employee at Shawnee Public Schools – who was able – has taken on extra duties so we could continue to serve our students in person. I am in awe of their willingness to help wherever and whenever needed. We know that being in person with teachers in classrooms is best for students, and our staff have exhausted every effort to try and keep school open the entire week.
While we will not have classes on Friday, we do hope to keep our extracurricular activities as scheduled. Please continue to consider wearing face coverings when social distancing is not feasible, wash or sanitize your hands frequently, and monitor the health of your family daily. Thank you for your support and understanding as we make these tough decisions for our student and staff safety.
April Grace, Ed.D.
