While the snow was falling outside, our Horace Mann Elementary, Shawnee, OK students were busy creating a Reading Blizzard of their own! In December and January, students read an incredible 4,162 stories with Amira! That’s not just impressive; that’s wolf-pack dedication! 🏆 Top Class Award: Mrs. Hopper’s Class 🏆 Top Teacher Award: Mrs. Hopper As part of their celebration, Mrs. Hopper’s class will foster Spot, Amira’s canine companion, for the entire month of February! By fostering Spot, they promise to: ✨ Keep him company ✨ Let him watch them learn ✨ Keep him safe ✨ Read with joy so he always feels loved Each student also received a Spot keychain and sticker to remember their big accomplishment! When school resumes on Tuesday, February 17, Shawnee Public Schools will begin a slightly adjusted daily schedule.

These changes help us make up instructional time lost to snow days while protecting scheduled breaks later in the school year.

Tomorrow, February 6th, is the 100th day of school! We are dressing our best for group picture day and to celebrate “100 Picture Perfect Days of Learning at Horace Mann!”

This week, we’re howlin’ our thanks to the school counselors who show up for our Wolves every single day.

From helping students chase big dreams, navigate tough moments, plan their futures, and believe in themselves, our counselors are difference-makers across Shawnee Public Schools. They listen, they guide, they advocate, and they lead with heart.

📸✨ 100 Days of Picture-Perfect Learning at Horace Mann! ✨📸 Our 100th day of school falls on group picture day, Friday, February 6! Students are encouraged to dress their best as we celebrate 100 days of learning the Horace Mann way. It’s going to be a picture-perfect day! 💙🤍🐴

We’re Back, Wolves! 🐺

Shawnee Public Schools will return to class on Wednesday, January 28! We’re excited to welcome our students back for a great day of learning.

Here’s what families need to know:
🔹 School starts at the normal time for car riders and walkers
🔷 Morning buses will run on a 2-hour delay (pickups exactly 2 hours later than usual)
🔹 Track your student’s bus using My Ride K-12
🔷 Main roads and school parking lots are clear, though some side roads may still be slick

Please note: Gordon Cooper Technology Center will not be in session on Wednesday.

As always, the decision to send your child to school is up to you. Thank you for your continued support as we prioritize safety and learning.

Wolves, we’re calling it — NO SCHOOL Tuesday, January 27!

While streets are improving, our parking lots and sidewalks are still icy and not where we need them to be for a safe return. Our crews are working hard, but safety always comes first!

❌ No school
❌ No activities
✅ Extra time to stay warm, cozy, and safe

We can’t wait to get our Wolves back on campus soon. Until then, enjoy the snow day!

At last night’s Board of Education meeting, we proudly celebrated our Shawnee Public Schools Board members in honor of School Board Appreciation Month. 💙🐺 Students and staff from across the district came together to create meaningful gifts for each board member: plants from our Ag Department, heartfelt notes and cards, hand-colored pins, custom bookmarks, and so much more. Thank you to our Shawnee Board of Education members for your leadership, service, and commitment to our students, staff, and community. Friday we wrapped up Red Ribbon Week and celebrated Halloween in true Wolf style! 💡 Fun Fact: The red ribbon symbolizes courage and a commitment to living drug-free. Tomorrow, Wednesday, October 8, at 6:45am, we will meet at Community Market, 120 S. Center, for Horace Mann's Walk, Bike, and Roll to School Day! Students may walk, bike, or roll, but must stay with the group. Parents and families are welcome, too!
