Shawnee Public Schools recently celebrated the completion of major renovations at three of its four elementary schools with community ribbon-cutting events. Horace Mann Elementary, Jefferson Elementary, and Will Rogers Elementary welcomed families and community members to experience their updated facilities. Sequoyah Elementary is scheduled for renovations next summer.
Horace Mann Elementary kicked off the celebrations on Tuesday, September 30, with tours led by the Principal’s Leadership team. Jefferson Elementary followed on Wednesday, October 1, where Community Renewal leadership students guided visitors through the revitalized building. Will Rogers Elementary concluded the series on Thursday, October 2, with tours led by the school’s House leaders.
Guests were invited to hear from students and principals at each site before exploring the renovations. Students shared their excitement and pride in their renovated learning spaces, highlighting the new bathrooms as a particular favorite feature.
The renovations were made possible by the reallocation of $8,005,000 from the April 2024 Bond election, allowing funds to enhance existing elementary schools rather than construct an additional building.
“These ribbon cuttings represent more than just updated facilities; they reflect our commitment to providing safe and welcoming environments where every student can thrive,” said Dr. Jason James, Shawnee Public Schools Superintendent. “We are proud of the pride and excitement our students have expressed, and we are grateful to the community for supporting the bond that made these improvements possible.”
Shawnee Public Schools extends its thanks to the community for its continued support and looks forward to completing renovations at Sequoyah Elementary next summer.
