The Indian Education program serves all SPS Native American students by helping them improve academic achievement, school attendance, and career readiness skills. An Indian Education advisor is assigned to every school site to help students reach their goals and to provide information and cultural resources to school staff.

The success of the Indian Education program depends on parent and family involvement. The Indian Education Parent Committee meets monthly to support students' academic and cultural needs.

The Indian Education program provides culturally responsive academic enrichment through programs, events, and activities. Indian Education advisors provide in-class, small group, and individual reading and math intervention for students in all grades. As needed, the advisors offer support to prevent behavioral problems, absenteeism, and truancy.

Some of the events and activities the Indian Education program provides include

  • Native American Student Art Show

  • Student Awards Program

  • Indian Education Powwow

  • Student Dance Troupe

  • Native American Student Career Day

  • Indian Education Summer School Program (Grades K-5)

Recently, several SPS Indian Education staff members and students worked with the Sac and Fox Nation to create a history curriculum. They hope to inspire more Tribal Nations to create similar curricula.
