Shawnee High School honored four graduating seniors who have committed to serving in the United States military during a special signing ceremony held on April 23rd.

The celebration, held on campus, recognized the students for their decision to serve their country and was attended by family members, school staff, classmates, and local military representatives. Each student participated in an official enlistment signing, similar to athletic or academic scholarship signings, as a way to honor their commitment and future service.

Chicago Herron has enlisted in the United States Army. Christopher Chappell has committed to serve in the United States Marine Corps. Ashton Culbertson will also join the United States Army. Emeilia Bronson has enlisted in the Army National Guard.

This ceremony reflects Shawnee Public Schools’ commitment to its 3 E’s, offering students the chance to Expose, Explore, and Experience career pathways that prepare them to successfully Enroll in college, Enlist in the military, or find meaningful Employment after graduation. For these four students, the decision to enlist is the culmination of that preparation and purpose.

“We are incredibly proud of these young men and women,” said Shawnee High School Principal Matt Johnson. “They represent our mission to equip students with real opportunities and a clear sense of direction after high school.”

Shawnee Public Schools extends gratitude to the recruiters and families who have supported these students along the way.

“As a district, we celebrate all postsecondary paths our students choose,” said Johnson. “These students are stepping forward to serve something greater than themselves, and we honor that choice with deep pride.”
