Shawnee Public Schools is pleased to announce the hiring of Mike Watkins as Assistant Principal at Shawnee High School.

Watkins brings more than 20 years of experience in public education to the role, having served as a teacher, coach, middle school principal, and high school principal throughout his career. Most recently, he served as Principal of Jones High School, where he led daily operations while overseeing academics, activities, transportation logistics, and campus operations.

"We are excited to welcome Mike Watkins to the Shawnee High School leadership team," said Shawnee High School Principal Bobby Cook. "His experience as a building leader, commitment to building positive school culture, and dedication to student success make him an outstanding addition to our school community. We look forward to the impact he will have on our students, staff, and families."

During his tenure at Jones Public Schools, Watkins played a leadership role in two district bond initiatives totaling more than $21 million, developed innovative academic support programs, established the district's first Virtual Academy, and led initiatives focused on college and career readiness. Prior to serving as a high school principal, he also served as a middle school principal and social studies teacher.

Watkins earned a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Education from the University of Oklahoma and a Master of Education in Educational Administration from Southwestern Oklahoma State University. He holds certifications as a Superintendent and Secondary Principal and has been actively involved in numerous professional organizations, including the Cooperative Council for Oklahoma School Administration (CCOSA), the Oklahoma Coaches Association, and the OSSBA Emerging Leaders Academy.

"I am excited to join Shawnee Public Schools and become part of a district with such a strong culture and commitment to students," said Watkins. "Throughout the interview process, I was impressed by the leadership team. Their focus on relationships, collaboration, and student success was evident in every conversation. Great schools are built by great teams, and I am honored to have the opportunity to contribute to the incredible work already happening in Shawnee."

Watkins and his wife, Chelsea, will celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary this June. They have two children, Classen and Cooper, and are excited to become part of the Shawnee community.

Watkins will begin his duties as Assistant Principal at Shawnee High School this summer.
